CHAEF had started establishing in 2004 primary healthcare centres at various poor suburban areas providing FREE facilities of consultation, diagnosis, treatment with FREE medication. We had initially assumed that the patients visiting our centres would be mostly women and children and therefore employed female doctors. This assumption proved correct and almost 85% of our patients consist of women and children. We however, soon realized and were also advised by our doctors that since most of women patients visit us for women related problems. CHAEF should arrange for Mother & Child Healthcare (MCH) facilities.
Presently we are providing MCH facilities at all our Centres. The female Medical Officer of the centre daily list out the patients for a specialist /Gynecologists visits all the centre weekly/fortnightly and provides the facilities of consultation, ultrasound and monitors pregnant women throughout the period and also arranges the vaccination to the pregnant women and the child before & after delivery.
We have been advised by our staff that poor pregnant patients who having no option, are getting the babies delivered at their homes by the local untrained Daees in very unhygienic and risky conditions. Most of the deliveries result either in death of mother or child or the women later suffers from medical complicate.
Since our present MCH facilities do not include maternity cases, we have decided to provide the facilities of hygienic, safe delivery through qualified Doctors/Gynecologist staff at selected centres. We have recently started this facility at our Qayyumabad Centre and hope to extend it to other centres for which we seek your kind support.
